New FCC plan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

What's that Buzz tell me what's a happening..
D
TV is here and your UHF wireless Mic frequencies are leaving.

11/8/98 -- As DTV stations come on the air here in Boston and throughout the country the UHF TV band will fill up like never before displacing many low power TV stations and almost all of the Part15 users including UHF wireless Mic's.

3/22/99 --  Local update: Ch42 WHDH-TV daily testing

Well last week it got me...  3/4 of the way through a St. Patrick's Day   morning broadcast with Karlson and McKenzie two of the four wireless mics started going to unsquelched static for no apparent reason. I later found out that it was the beginning of WHDH DTV's testing on channel 42. I had no idea they where so close but it appears they are up with daily test with a May 1st expected full-time sign on.

4/27/99 -- Local update: Ch42 WHDH-DTV full time 10hrs a day
                                          Ch30 WBZ-DTV testing on by May10
                                          Ch31 WFXT-DTV testing

3/19/01 New FCC proposals would take huge amounts of  wireless mic spectrum
FCC moves to clear TV spectrum for wireless   ch52-59 698Mhz-746Mhz and ch60-69 746Mhz-806Mhz   wow!

More TV news: WCEA-LP, displaced from channel 19 by WGBH-DT, has lost its bid to move to channel 3, with the FCC dismissing its application for that low frequency after receiving petitions to deny (we'd guess from WBZ, WGBH and WFSB, perhaps?) WCEA-LP now has a new application in to move to channel 58 with 5 kW visual, but that channel will also have to change in a few years when the FCC removes channels 52-69 from TV service.

On the TV side, the FCC granted a license to cover this week for WHDN-LP (Channel 26), a new Boston LPTV licensed to one Guenter Marksteiner of Florida. WHDN-LP was formerly W26CM and before that W23AM, licensed to Laconia NH. It looks as though WHDN-LP will be transmitting from a building near the Fleet Center in the old West End - possibly the roof of the Tip O'Neill Federal Building - with 8200 watts into a directional antenna.

How's it look here in the Boston area for UHF today   (updated 6/10/2004)
